Local Conservatives have consistently called for the introduction of one hour’s free parking in district centres to encourage people to shop locally and boost local trade. As many out of town shopping centres offer free parking to shoppers, parking charges in our district centres are helping to drive people away from our local centres and small businesses. The Council’s policy on parking is making it more difficult to shop locally. Under their latest plans, 2 hour parking stays will become more expensive.
Cllr Syd Lloyd, who has long campaigned for free parking in Romiley said, “It is high time for the Council to end its war on district centres and local businesses by introducing some free parking to boost local shopping. Conservatives are united in this campaign.”
William said, “The lack of free parking in our area is a serious problem. Along with local Conservatives , I have been calling for a limited amount of free parking in our district centres to make it easier to shop locally and to support our traders. I will continue working to offer real support to the residents and businesses across the constituency."
