Friends of Torkington Park held their Duck Race Festival on Sunday 22nd June. Bright sunshine and a good crowd of spectators made for an enjoyable afternoon as ducks battled it out for pole position over the course of the stream. The event raised over £700 to be spent on projects to improve Torkington Park for the benefit of residents.
Conservative parliamentary candidate William Wragg, who is a member of the Friends of Torkington Park team, said, “It was good to see so many people enjoying themselves at the event. The Friends group worked hard on the day to make it such a success. In particular Peter Jones, our secretary, put an enormous effort into organising the duck race and deserves our thanks.”
Commenting on recent changes to the way Stockport Council operates in parks William said, “The council expects far more of local parks groups than previously. It’s important to remember that we are talking about volunteers who are passionate about our green spaces and give their time freely. The council must make sure that it properly supports them and works in partnership with them.”
