"A young Conservative MP made his mark in Parliament as his Private Member's Bill passed its second reading.
William Wragg, 28, MP for Hazel Grove, hopes his new Bill will be passed to ensure that miscarriages of justice and wrongful convictions will be easier to correct.
The Criminal Cases Review Commission (Information) Bill received a favourable reception from both sides of the House and was passed unanimously.
The CCRC investigates alleged miscarriages of justice in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and can refer cases to the Court of Appeal.
Mr Wragg's Bill, if passed, will allow the CCRC to make an application to the courts to disclose new evidence help by private bodies.
Mr Wragg said: 'This Bill will provide essential new powers to the Criminal Cases Review Commission which will enable it to conduct its work even more effectively.'
A spokesman for the CCRC said: 'The Criminal Cases Review Commission is absolutely delighted that the Bill has successfully completed its second reading and that we are a step closer to having the powers we need.'
