Hazel Grove MP William Wragg has demanded that the Government provides better funding for police beginning at the Autumn Budget next month. This comes after comments by Met Police Chief Cressida Dick this week that the pay rise which officers received this summer was like a punch on the nose.
Earlier this year an Independent Pay Review Body recommended that Police Officers in England and Wales be given a 3% pay rise. The Government subsequently awarded officers a 2% rise.
Speaking in the House of Commons on 12 September, Mr Wragg said “It is pointless having an independent pay panel if its findings are ignored”.
He then called on ministers to ensure that more funding is provided to the police, asking them to “take back the firm message to the Chancellor of the Exchequer to bring forward additional resources for policing in the Autumn Budget”.
