The United Kingdom is setting the pace for the development and distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine. Roll-out commences next week.
William Wragg MP, has welcomed the news that the UK Government is due to start the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines from Dec 1, many weeks before other countries. William said: "This shows that when faced with adversity, the Government, public and private sector working together, the UK is a formidable power for good."
It was reported last week that the UK has the largest vaccine portfolio of any other country, and the news this week of the 90% efficacy of the Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccine, only strengthens the UK's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alongside this, the UK Government has committed £18bn for research and distribution of vaccines to developing countries through the WHO and using the aid budget from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO)
The Oxford Univesity/AstraZeneca vaccine is being sold at cost to ensure it is as cheap as possible for the population to be vaccinated at pace.
