A local boy from Romiley, Luke Chapman, has been honoured by William Wragg MP at a national awards ceremony at the House of Commons on Monday.
Luke Chapman was recognised by MPs at the Kids Count Charity’s Inspiration Awards Ceremony at the House of Commons on Monday evening where he won the award for the UK’s “Most Inspirational Young Person” in recognition of his extensive fundraising efforts.
Luke, aged 9, was born with a complex heart condition which will require ongoing surgery and medical treatment over the course of his life. To date, Luke has endured 4 major heart operations, each resulting in lengthy stays in hospital.
Despite this, Luke selflessly decided to celebrate a National or International Day, on for each day in a year; aiming to raise £25,000 for charity in order to help other children and families in similar circumstances.
Luke Chapman was presented with his Award by William Wragg MP, in the presence of a number of leading politicians, Government Ministers, community heroes and other high achieving young people from across the UK
William Wragg, MP for Hazel Grove constituency said:

What makes this challenge even more remarkable is, not only did Luke embark on his year-long efforts while recovered for open heart surgery, but that this was his 4th operation at the age of just 9. This selfless energy and determination to make a difference mark him out as a truly inspirational young man.”
During the 9th Annual Kids Count Inspiration Awards Evening, leaders in business, MP’s came together to recognise and support some truly inspiration young people and community organisations. This year there was a record number of nominations received for individuals and groups who are addressing issues that affect the lives of children by creating initiatives that are grounded in practicality and realism, make a positive difference, and afford greater freedom to young people to determine their own futures.
