It was announced yesterday, that Chancellor Rishi Sunak, has approved spending for a feasibility study to connect Marple to Stockport via Romiley and Bredbury
Following a long campaign by William and other local MPs, a feasibility study has now been secured, meaning that further investigations into the long-term viability of the project have been given the go-ahead.
Success in this round of funding means that the bid will progress to the next stage, and that funding will be granted to Transport for Greater Manchester to draw up technical plans to submit to the Department for Transport.
William said: "I am delighted that this bid now progresses to the second stage. Connecting Marple, Romiley and Bredbury to Stockport will be a game changer, as we continue to invest in public transport. I look forward to continuing to work with other local MPs, the Department for Transport and the Friends Groups of Rose Hill and Romiley as this bid continues."
