1. Friends of Marple Memorial Park

Volunteers making our park a better place for everyone in the Local Community!

Friends of the Park aim to provide opportunities for community members to improve and promote the use of, awareness of and care of facilities within Marple Memorial Park in order to make it a more welcoming, safe and enjoyable environment for all.

The group has achieved some fantastic improvements to the park since formation in 2003. Successes include: WWI silhouettes at the entrances to the park and a WWI Timeline to commemorate 100 Years since the Great War, a new feature created to display Marple's WWII Warship Week plaque, a Diamond Jubilee Flowerbed and Sculpture in front of the library; new Infants and Junior Play Equipment; a French Boules Court and seating; a BBC Breathing Places Area; Saving of Flowerbeds from grassing over; Tree Sculptures; Sponsorship, refurbishment and replacement of Park Benches; Park Entrance Improvements; a Coronation Bench and a Basketball Court Fence. Friends of the Park maintain all flowerbeds, shrub beds and benches in the park too.

We are currently focused on a project to refurbish and extend the skatepark. This will turn the existing dilapidated skatepark into a destination multi-discipline wheeled-sports facility for users, families and spectators to appreciate. It will suitable for a wide age range and level of skills and will become the best available in the Stockport Borough.

Young users have been involved in all stages of this project to provide free state-of-the-art skating facilities that will encourage young people to stay fit and healthy. It will give young people a better outlet for their energy and encourage them to take part in physical activity in a place they own that can improve health and enhance social skills.

A total of £100k is needed for the project. So far we've raised a fantastic £43.4k within the community. With a £50k £ for £ match-funding agreement with Stockport Council our contribution is worth £86.9k and we only need to raise a further £6.6k of community funds to achieve our aim.

If we win the vote the money will boost the Skatepark Project Funds.

2. Friends of Torkington Park

Friends of Torkington Park are a group of volunteers from Hazel Grove who help maintain the park and run community events such as the very popular Torkington Park Duck Race.

The Friends of Group work incredibly hard to deliver events all year round as well as ensuring park users have a clean and well maintained park.

About the Campaign

Charity of the Month, is a new campaign launched by William Wragg MP to promote three local charities and organisations each month.

Each month, residents of the Hazel Grove Constituency, will be able to vote for the group they would like to see named 'Charity of the Month'.

Why?

Charity of the Month, allows local charities to promote the fantastic work they do. Hopefully meaning more residents will become aware of what each group is doing in our community and maybe even get involved.

We have asked each charity to provide a short bio about the work they do, which you can read above.

What happens after I've voted?

After you've voted for your Charity of the Month, you'll receive an email encouraging you to get your friends and family involved.

Once the deadline date expires, the charity with the most votes will receive a donation from William Wragg MP and further promotion.
